Hair PRP Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a medical treatment that uses your own blood to stimulate hair growth.
Overview
Understanding Hair PRP Therapy
A small amount of blood is drawn, processed to concentrate the growth factors, and injected into the scalp. These growth factors wake up dormant follicles, improve blood supply to the scalp, and slow down active hair loss. It is one of the few hair loss treatments with genuine clinical evidence behind it and because it uses your own biology, it is safe with minimal side effects.
WHO IT SUITS
Is This Right for You?
Early to moderate androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss).Diffuse hair thinning with miniaturised follicles still present.Alopecia areata (patchy hair loss)- as an adjunct.Post-partum or stress-related shedding that hasn’t resolved
Best results are seen when follicles are still active. PRP cannot regrow hair in areas that are completely bald early intervention matters. Also combination with medical therapy is neccessary
OUR APPROACH
How We Treat at ZARS
Blood is drawn, then spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich layer. At Zars, we use a double-spin protocol to ensure a high platelet concentration; the quality of PRP preparation directly impacts outcomes.
The PRP is then injected into the scalp using a fine needle in a systematic grid pattern across thinning areas. At Zars, we can use mesotherapy to deliver PRP as welll. Scalp condition, degree of hair loss, and any underlying cause (hormonal, nutritional, stress-related) are assessed at the first consultation because PRP works best as part of a complete hair loss management plan, not in isolation.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your Treatment Journey
BEFORE
Come with a clean scalp so no oil, dry shampoo, or heavy products. Stay well hydrated and have a light meal before your session. Avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen) for 48 hours prior as they can reduce platelet activity.
DURING
Blood is drawn from the arm (like a routine blood test), processed for 10–15 minutes, then injected into the scalp. A topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand to minimise discomfort. Sometimes we might give you local anesthesia over your scalp. The injections involve a mild stinging sensation most patients tolerate it well. The full session takes 45–60 minutes.
AFTER
Mild soreness, redness, or a tight sensation on the scalp is normal for 24–48 hours. Avoid washing the hair for 24 hours. Skip the gym, steam, and direct sun on the day of treatment. Resume normal hair care from the following day. No social downtime.
RESULTS
What You Can Achieve
Reduced shedding is usually the first sign noticed around 4–6 weeks. Visible improvement in density and texture follows over 3–6 months. Results continue to develop for up to a year after completing the initial course. Consistency with maintenance sessions and any prescribed medical therapy is what sustains the outcome long-term.
FAQS
Common Questions
How effective is Hair PRP?
Clinical evidence supports PRP for improving hair density and reducing hair loss, particularly in androgenetic alopecia. It works best in early to moderate stages where follicles are still viable. Response varies by individual; those with recent onset hair loss tend to respond better than those with long-standing thinning.
Is it painful?
Discomfort is manageable. A topical/local anaesthetic is applied/injected to the scalp before injections, and most patients describe the sensation as a mild sting or pressure. The procedure is well-tolerated. Any soreness on the scalp typically settles within 24–48 hours.
How many sessions are needed?
An initial course of 3-4 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart is standard. This is followed by maintenance sessions every 4–6 months to sustain results. Hair loss is an ongoing process; maintenance is not optional, it's part of the treatment.
Can PRP be combined with hair loss medications?
Yes and it often works better that way. PRP combined with minoxidil, finasteride (where appropriate), or nutritional supplementation produces more consistent and lasting results than any single treatment alone. Your doctor at Zars will assess what combination suits your specific pattern and cause of hair loss.
