What treatments are available?
Vitiligo care is a stepwise approach focusing on early diagnosis, disease stabilization, and restoring pigmentation.
For stable vitiligo, surgical options offer effective and lasting results. These include punch grafting, blister grafting and melanocyte transfer procedures. With the correct patient selection and expert care, vitiligo surgeries can significantly improve cosmetic outcomes and patient confidence
MKTP: Melanocyte transplantation is the latest surgical method for the treatment of stable vitiligo/leukoderma and loss of pigmentation. Melanocytes are the skin cells which produce melanin. A complete absence of skin colour usually means that the melanocytes have been destroyed. Thanks to an innovative treatment, it is now possible to take melanocytes from a healthy area of skin and transferring them as cellular suspension onto the de-pigmented patches of skin. This process can be performed in a clinic within a couple of hours.
PUNCH GRAFTING: Punch grafting is a simple surgical technique for stable vitiligo where tiny skin grafts are punched out from normally pigmented areas are transplanted into depigmented patches. It helps restore natural pigmentation, especially in small, resistant areas, with good cosmetic outcomes when properly selected and can be performed in a clinic within a couple of hours.
BLISTER GRAFTING Blister grafting is a minimally invasive technique for stable vitiligo where superficial blisters are created on normal skin, and the thin epidermal layer is transferred to depigmented areas to restore pigmentation. It can be performed in a clinic within a couple of hours, with excellent colour match and minimal scarring.
DEPIGMENTATION: Can be considered as an option when re-pigmentation therapies do not show results , especially an good choice for in large body surface vitiligo area.
